Demographics of the Civil Grand Jury

Unlike the criminal grand jury, for which citizens are randomly summoned to serve so that all persons qualified for jury service have an equal opportunity to be considered for service, the civil grand jury depends upon citizens who volunteer to serve.

The Standards of Judicial Administration encourages courts to employ various methods of soliciting prospective candidates that reflect a representative cross-section of the community.

This chart of demographics for all applicants for the civil grand jury – as well as those randomly selected to serve from the pool of volunteers – assists the court in monitoring the extent to which we achieve our goal of seating representative grand juries.
